Merlin is developing the world's most capable pilot to deliver on the promise of autonomous flight.

how it works

01

Aircraft connect the world, reunite families, and protect democracy.

As the global population continues to expand and grow, the air is the shared space that connects us all. The best way to successfully, and safely, scale autonomous flight to meet the needs of this evolving world is to take a practical and stepped approach that first pairs the advanced automation capabilities of the Merlin Pilot with a human pilot. At Merlin, we believe the path to successful deployment of autonomy starts with building trust and time underwing to deliver a dependable, adaptable, and scalable autonomous solution.

01
Autonomy

Our configurable software is designed to adapt and fit any aircraft—whether it has already flown thousands of miles or is coming straight from the factory.

The Merlin Pilot is being built to enable future autonomous flight on a certified core operating system.

How we get there

02

Our thoughtful, three-phased philosophy ensures safety and scalability as we accelerate toward a future of autonomous flight.
phase 1

Crawl

Rigorous testing and certification with industry regulators including the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.

phase 2

Walk

Reduced crews on small aircraft, using a teaming approach whereby the Merlin Pilot and the human safety pilot aboard validate the Merlin Pilot’s data-driven decisions and ensure safety.

phase 3

Fly

Large aircraft fly with the Merlin Pilot and a reduced crew, and small aircraft fly without a crew.
